Volunteer Opportunities

At World Relief, no matter your age, passion or schedule, you can join in creating a community of welcome for refugees and immigrants across Chicagoland.

Choose the volunteering option that fits you best.

1. Build Long-Term Relationships

Through a weekly commitment, get to know immigrants and refugees personally at an English Language class or homework club. Or visit weekly with an individual or family in their home as a friendship partner, youth tutor, or health advocate.

These roles do the months-long relational work that helps create a sense of belonging, connection to the local community, and adjustment to American life. Flexible times on weekdays, evenings, or weekends - and you'll gain new friendships in the process!

2. Meet Needs When You Can

Not able to commit to a weekly schedule?
Use your available time to:
- Provide transportation to appointments or from the airport.
- Set up apartments for newly arriving families.
- Help with office projects at one of our offices.
- Help immigrants complete their citizenship applications at our clinics.

3. Serve Long-Term with a Team

Join friends or fellow church members to partner with a refugee or asylum seeker family for 6 months through our team programs. Good Neighbor Teams partner with refugee families and H.O.M.E. Teams partner with asylum seeking families. Offer them friendship, help them navigate life basics in America, and familiarize them with their community. Teams commit a financial gift to World Relief that contributes to rent assistance and other vital supports.

4. Serve One Time with a Group

Join with a group of friends, colleagues, or family to serve in a one-time opportunity. This includes participating in an advocacy activity, joining a conversation time with English language learners, sorting the donations in our warehouse, gathering friends together to do a Welcome Kit Donation Drive, or holding a prayer walk or meeting.
